Documents you'll usually need

Standard returnable documents for South African government bids. Check the tender's own list too.

  • CSD registration report (MAAA number). Government can't award to suppliers missing from the Central Supplier Database.
  • SARS tax compliance status PIN. A non-compliant tax status usually disqualifies the bid.
  • B-BBEE certificate or sworn affidavit. Without it you score zero preference points. An affidavit with mismatched dates is invalid.
  • COIDA letter of good standing. Required for most government work and construction sites.
  • CIDB registration certificate. Construction tenders require an active CIDB grading. CIDB suspends you the day after it expires.
  • CIPC company registration (CoR 14.3). Proves the company exists and who its directors are.
  • Bank confirmation letter. Many tenders ask for one dated within the last 3 months.
  • Municipal rates clearance or lease. Often required to show municipal accounts are not in arrears.
  • Attendance at the compulsory briefing. Bids from firms that didn't attend are rejected.
