SBD and MBD forms explained
Updated 26 Oct 2026 · 4 minute read
Standard Bidding Documents (SBD) are the forms national and provincial buyers include in every tender pack. Municipalities use their own versions called Municipal Bidding Documents (MBD). Each form has a number.
Forms you will see often
- SBD 1: invitation to bid. Your company details, CSD number and tax status.
- SBD 3: pricing schedule. Your prices, in the exact format given.
- SBD 4: declaration of interest. Whether anyone in your business is linked to the buyer or to government employees.
- SBD 6.1: preference points claim. Where you claim your specific goal points.
Tips for filling them in
- Use the forms in the actual tender pack, not old copies: versions change.
- Fill in every field. Write "N/A" rather than leaving a blank.
- Sign and date every form, by a person with authority to sign for the company.
- Make sure prices on the pricing schedule match everywhere else in your bid.
