10 reasons government tenders get rejected (and how to avoid them)

Updated 26 Oct 2026 · 4 minute read

A bid that is missing one form or one valid document is usually rejected before anyone looks at your price. These are the mistakes we see most.

The 10 mistakes

  1. Forms not signed, or signed by someone without authority.
  2. Tax status non-compliant on the closing date.
  3. CSD details old or different from the bid (bank, directors).
  4. B-BBEE certificate or affidavit expired or wrong template.
  5. CIDB grade too low, wrong class, or expired.
  6. COIDA letter expired.
  7. Missed the compulsory briefing session.
  8. Pages or schedules missing, or pricing schedule not filled in completely.
  9. Submitted late, or to the wrong box or email address.
  10. Declaration of interest forms incomplete, or not declaring a link to a government employee.

How to avoid them

Keep all your company documents in one place with their expiry dates, and check them against every tender before you submit. Tender Sorted does this for you and warns you before anything expires.

Questions

Can I fix a mistake after the closing date?

Usually not. Missing or wrong documents normally cannot be added after the closing date, so check everything before you submit.
